Rainy Barum rally

25. 8. 2018 - Petr Říha

Rainy weather is expected on the 48th Barum Czech Rally Zlín, which is a part of FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) and Czech National Rally Championship 2018 (MCR). The weather forecast suggests heavy rain all weekend and lower temperature in the Zlín region.

Scorching weather marked past editions and this year it is going to be the exact opposite. On Saturday temperatures should not go above 23 °C and Sunday might be even colder. It should be raining throughout the weekend with varying intensity. "It should rain all day on Saturday and it might stop by Sunday noon," said meteorologist Dagmar Honsová.

Lower temperatures accompany rainfall. "It looks like autumn is here faster than expected. On Saturday the temperature will be still comfortable enough but on Sunday the temperatures should go as low as 14 °C, which is a considerable fall," said Dagmar Honsová.

The Ceremonial Start at 4 p.m. represented the official beginning of the 48th Barum Czech Rally Zlín in front of the City Hall. In total, the crews have to battle fifteen special stages on eight sections (212 km) with very variable tarmac surface (741 km).

The Spectators' Super Special Stages in the streets of Zlín, including Bata's former shoemaking company, will kick off the 48th Barum rally and the more stages are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The winner of the three-day long rally will appear on the náměstí Míru Square on Sunday 26th August at 4:49 p.m.
