The track on legendary sections and a new partner

23. 7. 2024 - Martin Bill

STRABAG GREEN RALLY has firmly established itself among the events in the accompanying programme of Barum Czech Rally Zlín. This year, the seventh racing event will take place from 17 to 18 August 2024. It still sticks to its original intention - to explore alternative car engines, which are the future of ecological transport. Trends and innovations in the automotive industry now focus on fully electric drives for everyday use. At the start, we will see mainly all-electric cars, supplemented by cars with hybrid drives. The Strabag Green Rally is an opportunity to see for yourself where the future of motoring is heading and how technology is moving towards cleaner mobility.

The Strabag Green Rally is not about speed, as most fans and participants would imagine, but about precision. The crews complete selected stages of the Barum rally, but instead of competing in speed, they try to keep the ideal time as accurately as possible. This is based on average speed and the length of the course. The competition is open to regular factory cars with no special modifications, the only requirement being full electric or hybrid power. Participants will follow the conventional rally in using only the prescribed itinerary and driving records. If any problems or servicing needs occur, they have to manage it by using their own equipment in the car.

The competition will start on Saturday 17th August at 12:20 pm with the first car crossing the starting ramp at the Náměstí Míru square in Zlín. The crews will follow the track to their first timed section to Nové Dvory. After the completion of the Březová Green Test, which is labelled as a regularity rally, a test of special car handling skills will follow. The skill driving will take place at the traditional place near the Kapřín pond by Březůvky village. As in the case of the grand Barum rally, the highlight of Saturday's programme will be the Green Test Bunč. Here, the participants will once again face a closed section of the track focused on rally regularity. The finish of Saturday's part is scheduled for the area of the Archeoskanzen in Modrá and is combined with a tour of the exhibitions of the Treasury and Living Water. The organizers have prepared an unforgettable experience for the participants.

Sunday's stage (18th August) will start with breakfast and a slalom stage in the premises of the general partner of this year's event, Strabag, which is based in the industrial zone in the Příluky district of Zlín. In addition to being a general partner, Strabag will also be a direct participant, as its management plans to deploy at least one crew with a fully electric car. After a two-year break, the Green Rally route will also take participants to the Rudolf Jelinek liquor factory's visitor centre, where lunch and a tour of the exhibition and production of the popular Wallachian brandy will be provided. Sunday's programme will also host one debut, which will be a Green test on a legendary section of Barum rally history from Vizovice to Loučka. The third Green Test on a closed track will take place, as last year, on the Halenkovice section. The award ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Náměstí Míru square in Zlín, preceded by a regrouping at BMW Synot Auto Zlín a.s. in Zlín-Louky.

The Strabag Green Rally has gained many loyal participants over its history, so we can expect a full start list this year as well. The rally schedule allows for up to thirty crews to participate again.

The quality of the competition and the overall interest in it is confirmed by the new general partner, which is the aforementioned Strabag, a leading construction company in the Czech Republic. Other partners are Mototechna, Sheron (DF Partner s.r.o.), McDonald's and Synot Auto a.s. - BMW.
