First place goes to Poland again after several years

20. 8. 2022 - Roman ORDELT

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín 2021, a traditional photo competition was announced last year. The main prize went to our northern neighbours in Poland again after four years, as the winner was the well-known motorsport photographer Rafal Roguski from the city of Gliwice, a regular visitor to the Zlín Rally and other motorsport competitions in the Czech Republic.

The prizes for the photo contest were donated by RALLYMODELS - Antonín Babík, JNK Studio Zlín - the most professional rally video studio in the Czech Republic and ALITRON CZ, s.r.o. prepared for the winners a year-long subscription to the specialized moto-focused magazine RALLY.

Auto Club Barum Zlín in cooperation with ZLIN PRESS production agency made this photo-competition in digital photography available for the professional photoreportes and the photo amateurs as well, both were competing in the same category. Members of the jury were Miloslav Regner (Chairman of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín Organizing Committee), Ing. Jan Regner (Director of Barum Czech Rally Zlín), Roman Ordelt (ZLIN PRESS production) and members of the international jury decided to award three financial prizes in the digital category and additional five acknowledgements to the award.

"We are pleased that the photo contest has a constantly rising level and delighted by the considerable interest of nearly three hundred participants in the photo contest. The international jury, consisting of a number of personalities from the rally community, does not have it easy every year, as they evaluate a really large number of competition images. More and more, professional motorsport photographers are influencing the ranking of the top positions. Photographers from abroad also regularly take part and, judging by the latest results, occupy the top positions. Barum rally is simply a phenomenon all over Europe," said Miloslav Regner, Chairman of the Jury and Head of the Barum Czech Rally Zlín Organizing Committee. The last time the first place went abroad in 2017, when the Polish photographer Marcin Rybak from Łódź defended his first place from the previous year.

The ten-member international jury was again composed of photographers, drivers, co-drivers, team managers or officials. The jury members were Nodas Douzinas (Greece), Daniel Fessl (Austria), Zdenka Frývaldská (Slovakia), Marijan Griebel (Germany), Victor Johansson (Sweden), Simo Koskinen (Estonia), Adrian Sadowski (Poland), Marco Savini (Italy), Paulo Soria (Argentina) and Roman Švec (Czech Republic).

The photo competition at Barum rally has had an unprecedentedly positive response and popularity among motorsport fans every year, with the increasing quality of submitted photos. The number of entrants are proving this, as last year's photo competition received entries from 298 authors with a total of 1,358 images submitted. In addition to the three main prizes, the jury awarded five additional prizes.
