Green Rally is heading not only for the beauties of Moravian Wallachia

11. 8. 2022 - Roman ORDELT

This year, the fifth edition of the Green Rally (27-28 August 2022) will take place as part of the Barum rally's side events. Current innovative trends in motoring include in particular the exploration of alternative engines, which could in the future replace combustion engines considered as the cornerstones of conventional cars. And because Barum Czech Rally Zlín intends to keep up with the latest trends, there is already the semi-annual "green rally", an event designed for electric and hybrid vehicles.

It is not a classic rally, but a regularity drive combined with an adventure ride, during which the crews will complete some of the classic Barum Rally stages, spiced up with special challenges such as a skill drive. Fully electrically powered production cars and hybrid cars with combined combustion and electric engines are allowed at the start.

In previous years, the organisers from the Auto Club Barum Zlín within Autoclub of the Czech Republic, have tried to show the participants the beauty of the Zlín region, such as the most important place in the tourism sector, the Luhačovice Spa, the Kovo Zoo in Uherské Hradiště and last year they targeted the Welsh products in the form of a stop at the Rudolf Jelínek company. "This year we will show the contestants the scenic foothills of the Javorníky and Beskydy Mountains and visit the Valencio horse racing stable in Velké Karlovice. We are planning a guided tour of the stables of the leading racing trainer Radek Holčák with seating and refreshments. For many of the crews it will certainly be a pleasant time in the beautiful Wallachian countryside, spiced up with father and son Holčák's talks from behind the scenes," said Pavel Böhm, director of Green Rally.

Apart from the recommended administrative check-in on Friday, the rally itself will take place over the weekend. This year's Green Rally will start on Saturday, 27 August at 13:30 at Náměstí Míru Square in front of the town hall, before which the administrative and technical acceptance and a discussion with the drivers will take place. On Saturday, the Green Rally crews will head to Slušovice, where they will pass through the Březová SS in the afternoon in front of numerous fans, then they will move to the car park at the former tennis courts in Všemina, where they will have a skill drive and an interesting novelty in the programme - a regularity drive in the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area on the section Valašská Polanka - Halenkov. Saturday's day will end in the beautiful surroundings of Velké Karlovice, during a tour of one of the most successful racing stables in the Czech Republic, Valencio-Holčák.

On Sunday, 28 August, the crews of the electric cars will first have a joint breakfast at the McDonald's restaurant in Zlín-Malenovice and then they will appear on the track of the legendary Maják SS. The programme also includes a skill drive in Březůvky and a slalom test in Biskupice. Before noon, the starting field will move to Luhačovice. "In the pleasant surroundings of the spa town, Green Rally participants will take a tour of the iconic Jurkovič House, including a joint photo shoot, a walk through the town and lunch at the Alexandria Hotel. In the afternoon, they will complete special tests in Biskupice and Březůvky and then the final finishing ramp in front of the Zlín Town Hall including the prize distribution," said Pavel Böhm, the rally director. The first three crews in the hybrid and electro categories will receive trophies. All other crews will receive commemorative medals with the logo as a reminder of the Green Rally.

Take a look at the gallery of Green Rally winners in previous years. The first edition was a spoilsport for the Tesla X car with a mixed crew of Lukas Hatas, Tereza Nemcova.
