Barum rally is a challenge for both drivers and organizers
28. 8. 2021 - Vojtěch Jurák
The preparations for the 50th jubilee Barum Czech Rally Zlín were a big challenge for the organizers. Difficult conditions, uncertainty and a difficult financial situation. All this the organizing team led by the clerk of the course Miloslav Regner had to cope with. Successfully. And what is more - on top of this year, spectators can look forward to, e.g. an interesting innovation in a similar competition for electric vehicles.
"After a forced break, it was very difficult to start the whole preparation process again. Not that people wouldn't help us, but it was all so clumsy. However, we succeeded - this year's Barum rally is ready," Regner is happy.
The director of the Zlín event appreciates the support that Barum rally received from the Zlín Region, the city of Zlín and Continental Barum. "Thanks to the help we survived a difficult period and were then able to start preparations for the next year again. And now I believe that everything will go as it should. These is not racing for the drivers only, but for the organizers too."
Also this year the Barum rally will be full of interesting things that are worth seeing. "For example, we pulled out a historic ramp that stood under the cinema. She has not been out since 2012," describes Regner and also mentions the side events for children, for which this should be a support in physical activities and sport.
One of the drivers returning to Zlín after a forced coronavirus break is Miko Marczyk, Polish champion from 2019. "I know that a good driver must be fast at the Barum, it's a big challenge for me. It is a legendary event not only for the Czechs, but also for the Poles. I crashed here for the last time, but now I'm looking forward to rehearsals like Pindula, Májová or Biskupice," he said at a press conference.
A novelty of this year's rally will be the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup electric car competition, in which drivers will complete 12 special stages, including the night one in the streets of Zlín. "We are glad that we are here at the Barum rally and that we can present electric cars in a rally. This is the future of motorsport, Opel intends to continue to present this idea," said Jörg Schrott, on behalf of the hosting Opel Motorsport.
